Realistic programme planning for precast buildings
Published:
Short answer: In a precast building project the critical path usually runs through design approval and foundation works. Production does not start without an approved structural design, and when the architectural design, soil survey or load data arrive incomplete this stage stretches, so most programme losses occur here. After approval, factory production and site foundations run in parallel, and elements are delivered in erection sequence.
Approval stage
Once the architectural design, soil survey and load data arrive complete, the structural design and shop drawings are prepared. Missing information is the single biggest cause of delay at this stage.
Production and foundations
Factory production and site foundation works run in parallel. Socket foundation tolerance checks must always be completed before erection.
Delivery and erection
Elements are delivered in erection sequence. Site access roads, crane positions and the storage area plan directly determine erection speed.
