Precast connections under the TBDY 2018 seismic code
Published:
Short answer: TBDY 2018 requires the ductility level assumed for a precast system to be delivered by its connection details. The column-beam connection is detailed so that it actually achieves the behaviour factor used in design, and is built exactly as detailed. Pinned, semi-rigid and near-monolithic connections work with different behaviour factors; the choice depends on building height and seismic zone. Whether a column counts as fixed at the base depends on socket depth and grout quality.
Connection types
Pinned, semi-rigid and near-monolithic connection details work with different behaviour factors. The choice depends on building height and seismic zone.
Socket foundations
Socket depth and grout quality determine whether the column can be treated as fixed at the base.
Design and production alignment
For the detail to be built exactly as designed, shop drawings, erection instructions and site supervision must all work from the same detail set.
